WENDY
I love the process of discovery that historic research brings — using evidence and visual analysis to better understand how a building has evolved over time.
I’m a heritage consultant with over ten years’ experience working in local authorities and national heritage organisations, in both advisory and management roles. This has given me a strong working knowledge of planning and conservation legislation, policy, and guidance, as well as extensive experience negotiating complex schemes on behalf of both applicants and local planning authorities. I have also successfully represented both at Appeal.
I studied Architectural History at Oxford and Conservation of Historic Buildings at the University of Bath, and I have been a member of the IHBC for 15 years.
Before joining James Mackintosh Architects, I worked as a Senior Conservation Officer at Bath & North East Somerset Council and Cheltenham Borough Council, providing design and conservation advice across a large caseload of planning and listed building applications. Earlier in my career I worked with Historic England as an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas, and as a Heritage Adviser for the Canal & River Trust.
I’m particularly interested in helping projects move forward in a positive and collaborative way, building productive relationships with clients, stakeholders and colleagues, and finding clear, practical routes through the planning process while protecting what matters most about a place.
