RICHARD

I began my career as an architectural technician before qualifying as an architect, and I’ve always valued the practical side of the profession — how good design is built, how it performs, and how it feels to live with.

For many years I’ve worked with private clients on high-quality residential projects, from new houses to listed building renovations, extensions, and sensitive conversions. I particularly enjoy working with traditional buildings, where the character of a place matters and the details need to be carefully considered.

I hold an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of Bath, and I’m an ARB Registered Architect and RIBA Chartered Architect. My work is grounded in a clear understanding of significance and context, but always focused on creating homes that work beautifully for the people who live in them.

I support projects from the earliest conversations through design, planning, and technical delivery, right through to running work on site. Before joining James Mackintosh Architects in 2025, I ran my own architectural practice for many years, bringing a wide range of experience across both new-build and historic residential work.
