The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an architect with a minimum of 5 years post qualification expeirence or Building Surveyor to work on a wide range of conservation projects, including designing alterations for high end residential schemes, the conservation and repair of some of the nations most treasured buildings, regeneration and change of use schemes. You’ll be excited by bringing buildings back to life, adapting them sustainably for the future, while being sensitive to the natural environment around them. As part of our Chipping Norton office you will be responsible for supporting the development of other members of the office and the success of the practice.

Due to the travel required for this role, you must hold a full clean driving license with access to a vehicle, business mileage claimable through expenses. We are offering a salary circa £45,000 per annum.

What you will be doing

You’ll be responsible for confidently running projects at all stages from feasibility studies through planning and listed building consent to preparing construction information and acting as contract adminstrator on site. You will be part of a small team of architects and designers providing and delivering high-quality design solutions that meet our clients requirements. We do not have an in-house style – we listen to our clients and work with them to deliver their aspirations through imaginative and creative feasibility studies. You will be responsible for carrying out condition surveys, leading and coordinating technical packages of work to the highest conservation standard and delivering projects on site, to time and budget on a range of projects including mansion houses, manor houses, old rectories, and farmsteads throughout the Cotswolds and beyond whilst developing and line managing colleagues.

You will take an active role in business development to include attending conservation and networking events, as well as bid writing and other social media activity.

  • Experience of managing staff and developing others.

  • A track record of sucessful bids and attending networking and business development events.

  • Development of your own skills through a personalised development plan.

  • Supporting project architects with a larger project which will provide a full range of the RIBA workstages to lead to the skills and experience to be able to undertake a Part 3 qualification or similar and understand the contractual processes involved in being an architect. 

  • Pier to pier learning through working with others closely in the office. 

  • Preparing heritage statements for smaller projects. 

  • Developing understanding heritage planning policy and significance, through applying this in design work. 

  • Understanding information requirements for different types of planning applications. 

  • Developing design skills through carrying out your own feasibility studies under the supervision of the project architect or director for design review in an office environment. 

  • Development of knowledge of building regulations issues though following in house building regulations reports. 

  • Joining lunch time external CPD sessions through the RIBA curriculum, and internal CPDs’ including reviews of design, technical submissions, and health and safety project assessments 

  • Development of technical aspects of construction and traditional construction materials and techniques.  

  • Participation in meetings on site with project architects to oversee construction projects and responding to builders’ queries

Who we are looking for:

  • RIBA Part II or equivalent

  • Minimum 1 year full time experience in a professional practice.

  • Experience of preparing planning applications upto RIBA Stage 3.

  • A team player with excellent communication skills and confident in working with consultant, teams and suppliers.

  • A willingnness to attend networking, social media and business development events.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Experience in 3d modelling, ideally sketchup

  • Excellent hand drawing skills.

  • Good social media skills.
